Oil Revenues Shield New Mexico’s Industry

The first legislative session under New Mexico’s new Democrat governor passed without the crippling legislation some in the oil and gas industry expected. Most expressed confidence the gusher of new revenue flowing from the Delaware Basin is enough to shield industry from the sort of troubling new restrictions passed in neighboring Colorado.

Capitol watchers in Santa Fe credited industry’s persistence and ability to work with the governor and legislators with a session in which no serious damage was done. Others cited the nearly one-third share of state revenue generated by oil and gas.
